Okay, so at first you feel inclined to go a little easy on Episode One. After all this is the introduction and they need to spend a lot of time telling us stuff that we'll need to know in later episodes. Of course it's also a good place to start with the good production values and sensible plot lines. It's also a good time to establish that the color of light on the wall will stay the same color throughout a scene. Lets see how they did:
- In the opening scene there is a puddle reflecting the moon. The odd thing about this puddle is that it's red. Now the only thing that could make that puddle red would be if the street lamp was red and I haven't ever seen a red street light. So there is no reason for that puddle to be red.
- As Dexter is driving around we see a guy carrying a big python through the streets of Miami. And what I want to know is if that's even legal.
- As Dexter is sitting in his car watching the boys performance one if the boys steps forward as the song ends. What is the point in that? He just stood there and didn't do anything else.
-After the show ends, Mr. Donovan goes back to his car where Dexter is waiting to kidnap him. Strangely, his family doesn't come with him. Even stranger, Mr. Donovan has parked clear out past the park and past some random abandoned buildings. It's almost like he wants to get kidnapped
- When Dexter gets out of the car after he's kidnapped the guy the light in the car comes on for the back door but not the door in the drivers side.
- Dexter is about to drug his victim but shows his victim the boys he's killed. The thing is, that Dexter happens to own personal crime scene lamps? Cuz that's what he's using to light the place.
- Right before and during Dexter drugging his victim, there is purple lighting on the two of them. There is no reason for there to be a purple light in that building nor is any source shown for it. Nor is it consistent. It's like they're playing a game of purple light white light.
- At one point Dexter comments about how his victim will be put into some Hefty bags. Does Hefty pay for advertising?
-Wow, that shot knocked Donovan out before the syringe was fully depressed.
-During the death scene we have a naked man on a table who has no genitals or pubic hair.
-Strange, when Dexter cut Donovan's cheek, the blood looked like blood. When he put it on the slide, it looked like cough syrup.
- Dexter cuts the guy apart using an electric saw. With no cord, or outlet for the plug.
- And their should have been immediate blood splattering when Dexter cut into the guy. I mean he got the headish area. The head holds a lot of blood.
- At one point Dexter is driving down the river in his boat. Except the boat isn't moving when according to the birds eye views he should be. Also, where did they find that major port in the middle of a mangrove swamp?
- In the next scene they have Dexter wearing this pink lipstick that looks totally unreal and stupid.
- Dexter gets a voice mail from his sister Debra. Except that Deb doesn't sound like deb at all.
-In one sentence Dexter first says that he thinks Debra's feelings for him are nice but that he doesn't have any feelings. It looks like nice is no longer a feeling.
- When Dexter finds Deb in the hotel she is smoking a cigarette. It changes size constantly and gets put out twice.
- There is Chinese lettering next to the pool. With no translation this sign will only help the Chinese population of Miami.
- I happen to see security cameras all over the crime scene. It looks as if they have been there for a while and are pointed straight the murder victim in the bottom of the pool.
- They say that this new body is unique, but it's the third one.
-The gawkers by the fence looking in keep appearing and disappearing like Hamlet's ghost.
- Next morning we meet a couple of people around the office and they even have names. The only thing is that we will never see them.
- Dexters lab moves between places in the different episodes.
-Dexter's screen changes back and forth while Dokes is lecturing him.
-Oh look its a big bald black buy with a rough exterior but a heart of gold playing a cop. Never seen that before.
- A coupe of guys in lab coats that are standing behind Dexter disappear and then reappear several times.
- Dexter goes to investigate a crime scene and says that they guy wasn't a professional. But when he gets there he says that he was skilled and used to using a blade. ( make up your mind Dex)
-Strange that in crime scenes with white walls, the blood stays bright red.
-Dexter spends hours stringing red string to all the tiny little dots of blood but somehow leaves out giant blobs in between.
-How come it isn't illegal for Dexter to watch illegal snuff porn? Also, why does watching snuff porn make your screen glow red?
- OH no! Our snuff film filmographer snuffed Flo from the Progressive commercials!
-Our careful cop/serial killer forgets to put on gloves before breaking into suspected serial killer's house. Ummm.
-Why is it that the interior of creepy people's house always has that super creepy fog.
- Dexter starts getting chased by this big German Shepard only to be saved by one of those flimsy 1/2 inch thick folding doors which he then has to hold so the dog can't come through. But then proceeds to let go and start exploring the room with the dog still trying to get in. The logic and physics are against this one.
- At one point Dexter is eating ice cream, the ice cream changes size and shape in between us seeing it when Dexter hasn't touched it.
- Dexter throws a bag into his car and then immediately sits where it should have landed.
-So we go to a street party where there are dozens of people dancing. Somehow, none of these people are interested in the disassembled corpse the cops are working on just down the street.
- you can hear a cop siren over the loud thumping music at the party scene.
- We see teen Dexter fixing his skate board. Now if this kid has no feelings and has to fake every interaction why would he have a skate board. Or be concerned about its well being.
-Young Dexter has lots of freckles and moles. Old Dexter is smooth skinned. Cosmetic surgery?
- Now something that just gets to me are cliches and here we have the classic case of a parent talking kid into becoming a superhero cliche.
- Speaking of that scene why is Harry's nose tanner than the rest of his face?
- People in the police station are cussing all over the place and in front of their bosses. That is totally not how you talk in the work place.
- Why does Dexter decide to cover his face in plastic wrap when he kills the snuff film guy?Why not that little helmet thing? Speaking of which. The snuff film guy also lacks pubic hair or signs of gender.
- When does Dexter sleep? He's running on 24 hours with no sleep.
-Dexter says the ice truck would help slow the flow of blood. The killer wants his victims bloodless. Isn't that the opposite of helping?
-Dexter asserts that the Ice Truck the killer is driving is likely stolen. That makes no sense. The best way to hide your crimes is not to steal an expensive vehicle that everyone will be looking for.
- How did the Ice Truck Killer know it was Dexter following him?
- On the bridge that the ITK throws the head at Dex their is an empty security tower. somebody got fired that night for being late to work.
- The water on Dexter's window disappears and reappears. Throughout the scene with the ice truck
- When the ice truck turns around you can clearly see the license plate
- Sometimes the ice truck has a back door but other times it doesn't.
- Dexter doesn't even call Rita to say he will be late? what kind of boyfriend is he?
- Why was Laguarta wearing a wedding ring while hitting on Dexter.?
- Who calls in sick because her boyfriend didn't show up to have sex last night?
- Rita has a bracelet to string around her wrist when she pulls Dexter towards the couch but when she sits him down its gone.
- When Dexter gets home he mind monologues some more and completely contradicts the opening sequence.
